Who we are
Rayak (“Rayak”, “we”, “us”) is a community app for the town of Rayak, Bekaa, Lebanon — a shared space for neighborhood updates, a local marketplace, events, and a business directory. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), and neighborhood.
- Profile details: optional bio and profile photo/avatar.
- Content you create: posts, marketplace listings, events, business listings, comments, reactions, RSVPs, direct messages, and any reports you submit.
- Images: photos you upload to posts, listings, businesses, or your profile.
- Technical data: limited server logs (e.g., IP address and request data) used for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting.
How we use your information
- Provide and operate the community features.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Send service messages, such as password-reset codes and in-app notifications.
- Moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, or technical issues.
How we share information
- With the community: your profile and the content you post publicly (posts, listings, events, business pages) are visible to other Rayak users. Direct messages are visible to their recipient.
- Service providers: infrastructure and hosting (DigitalOcean) and email delivery for account messages — only as needed to run Rayak.
- Legal reasons: when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
- We do not sell your personal data.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account from within the app at any time; this removes your profile and personal data. Some content may be retained in anonymized or aggregated form, or where retention is required by law.
Security
Passwords are hashed (bcrypt), connections are encrypted in transit (TLS), and access to data is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Rayak is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Your rights
You may access, correct, or delete your information. To make a request, use the in-app controls or contact us below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here with a new effective date.
